Abstract
Considering the importance of positive childhood experiences in the family environment, its measurement requires having a valid scale. This study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of a short form of the Memories of Home and Family Scale in the Iranian population. The current research population was undergraduate students at Zanjan University during the 2024-2025 academic year, from which 375 students were selected through convenience sampling method. The Cronbach's alpha value for the entire test was 0.80 and the test-retest reliability over a 10-day period was 0.86, indicating the desired reliability of the scale. The content validity of this scale was confirmed qualitatively and quantitatively by experts. Convergent validity was confirmed using the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWS) (0.37) and divergent validity was confirmed using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) (-0.23), the third version of the Loneliness scale (UCLA) (-0.31), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7) (-0.34). Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the construct validity. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that six factor structures (valuability, independence, support, security, well-being, growth) had good and acceptable fit. Overall, the results demonstrated that the short form of the Home and Family Memories Scale for measuring perceived positive experiences and memories from childhood has good reliability and validity in Iranian population. Therefore, it can be effectively used in research to measure positive home and family memories and experiences.
